Mark Anthony Galluzzo
A dual US/British citizen, Mark Anthony studied economics at the University of Florida, Gainesville, before heading north to New York City as a teenager. Once there, Galluzzo was awarded the prestigious Paulette Goddard Scholarship to attend New York University’s world-renowned Tisch School of the Arts, where he studied filmmaking and won numerous awards as a writer, director and cinematographer.
Known as one of the most technical of director/ producers in indie film, Mark Anthony cut his teeth as an assistant on the high-wire T.V. act that is NBC’s Saturday Night Live.
The semi-autobiographical drama, TRASH, was Mark Anthony’s critically acclaimed directorial debut, about which Variety’s Daniel M. Kimmel declared, “Low-budget drama about white trash scores a direct hit!” Reminiscent of Good Will Hunting, Trash is a spiralling tale of violence, hatred, love and loyalty about two friends growing up in the poverty stricken South who learn that the only way for each of them to escape their miserable futures is by sacrificing the other.
The film, picked up by Showtime, stars Six Feet Under’s Jeremy Sisto, My Name is Earl Emmy® Winner, Jaime Pressly, and White Squall’s Eric Michael Cole. Supporting are Veronica Cartwright (X-Files), Grace Zabriskie (Wild At Heart) and Jonathan Banks (Wiseguy).
For his sophmore feature, Galluzzo went on to write and direct, the Hitchcockian black comedy, R.S.V.P. which was distributed by Lions Gate Films. An irreverent comedy romp, R.S.V.P. cleverly mixes the spirit of Frank Capra’s Arsenic and Old Lace with Alfred Hitchcock’s Rope. Set in the heart of sin city itself, Las Vegas, Nevada, R.S.V.P. follows a group of twenty-something’s on their last – and we do mean last – night of collegiate bliss.
The film stars: Glenn Quinn (Angel), Jay Mewes (Clerks, Jay and Silent Bob), Reno Wilson (Crank), Rick Otto (The Wire) and features a breakout performance by rising star Nora Zehetner (Brick, Heroes). At the West-Coast premiere, LA Times film critic, Kevin Thomas declared the film to be “Diabolically Clever!”, whilst others praised it as “An Art-House Scream.”
In addition to his directing and camera work, Galluzzo sold six feature screenplays including: Miracle Entertainment’s “Never Look Back”, Interlight Pictures’ “The Jason Lee Story”, Cinemecca’s “The Wards” and J.M.Churchman’s “Storm Warriors” & “D-Day”.
Now a British citizen, Galluzzo now makes his home in London.
Training credits include lecturing at Oxford University and Kings College for the New York Film Academy on directing and independent filmmaking, shooting commercials for international clients and preparing new feature films for both Europe and Hollywood.
Galluzzo’s latest projects include directing the music video for Dizzee Rascal’s UK#1 smash “Dance Wiv Me” and Matt Darey’s rocktronica club hit “Animal”.
