By the end of the course the participant will be able to schedule and budget a project for both raising film finance and to efficiently manage the shoot.

Workshop Overview
Budgeting and Scheduling is a crucial part of the filmmaking process, both for raising the money and for managing your shoot. This course is designed to guide you through the process, so that you get it right and you don’t run out of money and time.
- Key scheduling and budgeting techniques
- Fundamental questions to ask yourself/client before budgeting & scheduling the feature film
- What to consider when budgeting and scheduling
- How long will it take and how much it will cost?
- How to make it work on the budget you have!
- How much money do you really need?
- Cash vs. Deferred budgets
- What format to use – the Film vs. HD debate
- Post-production and delivery
- How to use your schedule to then budget your film
- Budgeting & scheduling terminology explained
- Introduction to the various scheduling reports, e.g. day out of days, one-line schedule and shooting schedules
- Important things to consider when breaking down a script (using breakdown sheets) in preparation for scheduling
- How to save a shoot which is going wrong
- Introduction to the various budgeting reports, e.g. topsheet, fringes and globals
- Key things to consider when budgeting a feature film such as: Equity/non-equity rates, wage rates, BECTU, holiday pay, national insurance, minimum wages/volunteers, VAT, contingency, insurance, completion bonds and financing costs
This is an interactive course where the participants will apply the scheduling knowledge they have learnt by scheduling a short film in groups, followed by an evaluation and discussion of the different approaches each group has taken to schedule the short film.
A CD-Rom will be given to each student with handouts, sample schedules and budgets, shot list etc.
