Workshop Objectives
This course will teach the participant to effectively manage a feature film or drama production from the initial budget and schedule, through pre-production to wrap.
Who Should Attend
Anyone who is thinking of producing a feature film or drama production; Filmmakers/Production Managers/Line Producers who have made a micro-budget drama production and want to make a bigger budget drama production.
Production Coordinators/First Assistant Directors wanting the make the move into production management/line producing, it is also good for writer/director/producer teams and those wishing to move from factual into fiction production.
Workshop Overview
This five day intensive course is designed to guide you through the nuts and bolts of feature film/drama production. Covering subjects such as:
- The Production Department – the roles, functions and responsibilities
- How to schedule and budgeting a feature film
- Finances – cash flow, basic accounting, cost reporting and variance reports
- Employment – union agreements, working time directive and minimum wage
- Legal – employment law, contracts and clearances
- Tax – PAYE, Self employed, National Insurance and VAT
- Health & Safety – risk assessments
- Insurance – production, errors and omissions and completion bonds
- How to cast the crew and manage them
- Production paperwork – progress reports
- The Shoot and how to survive it –collecting intelligence and production meetings
- Post-production – the different shooting formats and post-production routes
- What you need to deliver for post-production and final delivery
A CD-Rom will be given to each student with handouts including sample agreements, , production paperwork etc.

Rebecca Knapp is a BAFTA nominated and award-winning film and television producer, who has lecturing in film and television production for the past seven years.
